Community

VSH is: INVOLVED

VSH is comprised of individuals who care about the community. We support local businesses and organizations that are important to our clients and employees in a variety of ways.

VSH Sponsors WWU Business Forum with Accounting ScholarshipVSH was proud to be a Mount Shuksan Table Sponsor at the $2,000 level ($1,600 in scholarship funds for a Whatcom County student.) Several partners and staff attended the sold-out event on October 11th, which featured local entrepreneur Erin Baker of Erin Baker’s Wholesome Baked Goods.

VSH Team takes on Bellingham Traverse!Kathy Herndon, Trevor Herndon, Lydia Ahn, Ryan Dales and Mary Doherty competed on the very first Team VSH in the 2011 Bellingham Traverse on Saturday, Sept. 17th.

The multisport race consists of two bike legs, two running legs and a kayak leg to symbolize the impressive run of the salmon from fresh river water, through the open ocean and back again. The Traverse event supports the community by highlighting and raising money for local and regional organizations. Team VSH is proud to be one of this year’s “Spawnsers.”

VSH participates in Workplace CSA program; instigates corporate challengeAs a partner in Sustainable Connections, Varner Sytsma Herndon became a Workplace CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) site for its employees. Staff members can buy shares through Growing Washington to receive weekly boxes of fresh local organic produce.

In addition, VSH donates a box per week to the low-income program to support a family in need with fresh local organic food. As the first business to make this type of donation, the firm challenges other businesses to follow suit and contribute a box per week. After all, it doesn’t take a CPA to figure out how a small investment can have such a big impact for a hungry family.
