Get informed on the the new WA Cares Fund program
The WA Cares Fund is a new program that gives working Washingtonians access to long-term care coverage when they need it. WA Cares contributions begin on July 1, 2023 and benefits begin on July 1, 2026. Make sure you’re up to speed on how the program works and what you need to do to prepare for the launch. Almost all Washington employees will be contributing to the program, but some exemptions do exist and will be available on an ongoing basis.
You can apply for an exemption if one of these scenarios apply to you:
• You live outside of Washington.
• You are the spouse or registered domestic partner of an active-duty service member of the U.S. armed forces.
• You have a non-immigrant work visa.
• You are a veteran with a 70% service-connected disability rating or higher.
For financial planning purposes, you can estimate your contribution in advance using the calculator on the WA Cares website.
